What I Miss Most

What I miss most from before this quarantine is being able to play ultimate frisbee with my friends. I had just made the school ultimate team before quarantine started, and missing that was one of my bigger disappointments from this quarantine. Ultimate frisbee was one of the things that most of my friends were into, and because of our common interest, it gave us a reason to play as much ultimate frisbee together as we could.

I was never that into ultimate until the end of last year, as I had never played it until my grade 8 PE class. I wasn't sure what to think of it at first, as I couldn't throw a disc properly, nor could I catch one consistently. I thought that a whole sport revolving around such a simple concept was pretty stupid at first. However, later in my grade 9 year, a bunch of my friends tried out for the ultimate team. Because of this, we ended up playing ultimate frisbee a lot more during lunchtimes and after school, and I had no choice but to join in. After many lunch hours, I finally got the hang of the basic throwing and catching of an ultimate disc. After this, I became slowly started to see how so many people can enjoy this sport, as well as how much I could improve if I wanted to. After that, the more I improved, the more I fell in love with the sport. It was not only so much more fun than I ever could have imagined had I not tried it, but it was also something I genuinely wanted to get better at. I practiced a lot leading up to this year's tryouts, and as I did, I discovered more and more ways to throw the disc. There is an unbelievable amount of ways to actually throw an ultimate disc, some of which are extremely difficult.
(I couldn't find any pictures of me playing ultimate so here's one of my friends.)
As tryouts were drawing closer, my friends and I started a routine of spending every single lunch block and after school playing ultimate, and we just kept practicing and practicing. As tryouts came and past, most of my friends made the team! The disappointment came, however, after our first official practice, when the social distancing guidelines came into place. We could no longer practice without the risk of the coronavirus spreading, and that pretty much put a stop to our ultimate season.
